Getting around Perth by public transport is easy and efficient, thanks to the city’s well-connected network of buses, trains, and ferries. You can purchase single-trip tickets from ticket machines at the station via cash or card.

• Payment methods

  • Standard SmartRider card: A reusable card you tag on/off with. The standard card costs AUD $10 and you must add a minimum top-up (e.g., $10) when you first buy it. 

  • Cash ticket: You can also buy a single-ride ticket as a cash option from ticket machines or the driver (on a bus). For trains/ferries you need to buy before boarding. 

• Hours of Operation:

  • The Fremantle Line trains operate daily, starting early morning through to around midnight or shortly after (on Fridays/ Saturdays into the early hours). 

  • For the Airport Line, trains are scheduled with high frequency (every 12 min in peak periods, every ~15 min off-peak, and about every 30 min at night).

Public Transportation

• Take the train on the Airport Line from Airport Central Station (serving Terminals 1/2) to Perth Station, then change to the Fremantle Line train from Perth Station to Fremantle Station. From Fremantle Station it’s a short walk (or bus ride) to the Esplanade Hotel.
