Patrick is the Lifecycle Leader - Sequencing Applications Ecosystem at Roche Diagnostic Solutions. In this role, he is responsible for leading Roche’s product strategy for translational research workflows and applications in the Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) space. Prior to his current position, Patrick has held multiple leadership roles in Research and Development at Roche and Ariosa Diagnostics. He and his team's work has been focused on developing molecular diagnostics across diverse fields including, oncology, genetics, infectious diseases, and prenatal health.
Patrick received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Stanford University and his B.A. in Public Health Studies from Johns Hopkins University. He has authored several influential publications and is an inventor on multiple patents.

John Randell

John Randell has led the Human Cell Atlas Executive Office since March 2020. He was previously the John E. Bryson Director of Science, Engineering, and Technology Programs at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he was the staff director for studies on federal research policy, international scientific partnerships, public trust in science, and the societal adoption of scientific and technological advances. In 2001 he was a visiting assistant professor of microbiology at Kathmandu University Medical School.
He is a member of the Product Steering Committee for the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) and previously served on the governing board of the Journal of Science Policy and Governance and the advisory board of the Network of African Science Academies. From 2022 to 2025 he co-chaired the National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists, a joint standing committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Section of Science and Technology Law.
John received undergraduate degrees in mathematics and microbiology from the University of Iowa, and a PhD in virology from Harvard University. From 2003–2009 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied the initiation and cell-cycle control of eukaryotic DNA replication.
